“I thought you two were taking a few days off to um…reconnect?” Zen asked as Jagger and Nick strolled into the club later that afternoon.
“We are, but King Destrain called and asked to meet with us. I’m not sure how long this meeting will take, but we’ll be in my office. When the king comes, please send him in,” Jagger replied and walked behind the bar.
“Sure thing, boss.”
“How did everything go last night?” Jagger asked as he grabbed two bottles of water from behind the bar and made his way back around to Nick’s side.
“Everything went smooth. A few drunks needed to be cut off and cabs called to take them home, but they didn’t cause any trouble. Other than that, it was business as usual,” Zen answered.
“Good, I’m glad to hear it, and so will Rhys when I meet with him in a few days.”
“I heard you were a hero yesterday, Nick? I must say, having you and your boys as well as Wyndingo and his guys here makes me sleep better at night. Just then the front door of the club opened, letting in a stream of light from outside. The door closed and Destrain and Dain had entered. “Good afternoon, gentlemen. Are we early?” Destrain asked.
“No, you’re right on time. Come on back to the office where we’ll have some privacy,” Jagger offered and took Nick’s hand, then led them all to his office.
Once inside, Jagger closed the door, then walked to the sofa where he sat next to Nick as Destrain and Dain took the chairs across from them. “So, what did you need to see us about?” Jagger asked.
Dain looked from Jagger to Nick, then back again. “I wanted you to know that Rhys and I have been looking through my old books and I think I may have found a way for you to get rid of these new powers of yours, but I need to warn you, it’s a drastic move and could cause you great pain,” Dain explained.
“But what if I don’t want to give up these new powers, only tamp them down and control them?” Nick asked.
“I’m confused. I thought you said you couldn’t take them? That they brought you too much pain and suffering?” Dain questioned.
“They do, but like all powers that we get, if I can learn how to control them, they come in very handy. At yesterday’s fire, I heard
